How to create an Average Overlay based on another Grid Overlay

The various Grid Overlays in the Tygron Platform, both for specific calculation models as well as for managing and displaying data, can calculate very acurate and location-specific results. There are a number of use-cases in which it is desirable to average the results out over a larger area, or otherwise introduce a spatial buffering of the results. In these cases, an Average Overlay can be set up to take a different Grid Overlay as its input, and apply a spatial effect for each location based on surrounding cells. The most common direct use-case is the creation of heat maps, where seemingly overly-accurate results are averaged out over an area to give a more general impression over a broader region.

Editor → Current Situation (Ribbon tab) → Overlays (Ribbon bar)

How to create an Average Overlay based on another Grid Overlay:

Select Current Situation in the ribbon bar of the editor.
Hover over Overlays, and under Grid Calculation, select Avg & Interpolation.
With the Overlay selected, open the Configuration Wizard by clicking on the button in the detail panel.
Once the wizard is ready, select next.
In the operator step, select the option named AVG.
In the type step, select the option named The overlay input is based on another grid overlay.
In the overlay step, select the Grid Overlay that you want to average.
Close the wizard by clicking on the finish button.
Adjust the averaging distance by selecting the Cell averaging distance (m) field.
