How to correct your Water Overlay data
When working with the Water Overlay, it is desirable to work directly with the source data available. However, there may be aspects of the data which conflict with the way the Water Overlay functions. These situations may require some corrections to have the data properly interpreted by the calculation model.
For some situations, the Water Overlay will also be able to detect that an issue exists and show a warning.
Depending on the situation, clear instructions to correct the issue may exist. However, due to the inherent complexity which may be involved with various combinations of data, for some situations only advice on how to investigate a potentially erroneous phenomenon can be offered.
Corrections
The following instructions are corrections to improperly configured data which are otherwise nearly certain to function incorrectly.
- How to correct inlets on land
- How to correct multiple buildings on the same location
- How to correct weir, pump, or culvert drawn as point
- How to correct a building in an uninterrupted waterway
- How to correct a building at the edge of the project area
- How to correct a culvert connecting two water level areas
Improvements
The following instructions are improvements which will allow the simulation to come to a more realistic result.
- How to remove bridge heights (Water Overlay)
- How to modify evaporation factor from trees to forests
- How to generate an initialized groundwater situation
Investigations
The following instructions are general checklists for when certain odd results are produced by the simulation, to investigate whether (and if so where) an issue with the model exists.
